This week started with something completely different and new for me. Charlotte and Paul at the National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) University of Lincoln asked me to spend some time with forty or so industry students talking about my experiences and learnings through my career in relation to key principals and strategies to ensure safe and consistent food production. I would be lying if I didn't say I was a little nervous, firstly talking with over forty people on line and making the session as interactive as possible, but other than completely blowing the time limit by just under an hour all went really smoothly. Thanks to Charlotte for coordinating all the activities and responses during the session. We received some good constructive feedback and enjoyed the discussions around the challenges being experienced with company culture and direction. It certainly seems that the food industry is becoming a more challenging environment to work within, with increasing pressure on saving costs. That been said it was encouraging to see so many prepared to rise to the challenge and still deliver good quality food to their customers. Looking forward to the next session.
